The days of ciggarette and booze companies sponsoring any type of sport is long over I'm afraid....

One thing I found interesting about Shane is when I met him he couldn't say enough bad things about autoclutches and hand guards. He despises them! I for one never jumped on the auto-clutch bandwagon myself but I definitely like me a good set of hand guards. At the time (2008) he also didn't have a problem saying that David Knight was the best off road rider in the world.

I dunno, he seems like a good guy but maybe has a chip on his shoulder. Maybe he has the right to, I'm certainly not the one to judge.

I didn't see anything in the article that everyone else isn't already saying behind the rider's backs. I stopped reading after the Jimmy Jarrett comments so I didn't get the full experience. But I think it's a good change of pace compared to what we normally see out of MX/offroad fluff writings. A lot of people are afraid to piss people off with their comments and their writings tend to be nothing but walking on eggshells. I don't think people should be writing things for the sake of pissing someone off but if it's relevant to the reporting or, like in this case, proving one's observations I think it works. Maybe Wattsy's delivery was a little harsh in some areas but overall there is nothing surprising here. Not because it's coming from Wattsy but because everyone is saying it already.

I don't know him personally but I respect the guy for giving us his opinion and hopes he continues it. I've had some experiences writing where I've pissed some people off and that definitely wasn't the intention. Again don't know him but I can't imagine someone getting on the computer with a goal of pissing off as many people as possible (Exception: VitalMX). Some people, like myself, just aren't very diplomatic in their communications and it strikes a nerve. I've learned I shouldn't have a soap box to stand on because I keep burning myself. Anyway, I find it refreshing to see someone with some inside knowledge step out of the box and give their true opinions. As it's already been said he's probably at a place where he can afford to do that.

I haven't met the guy or had any long conversations with him but I would say it's pretty easy to develop a chip on your shoulder racing in this series. Can't speak for Watts but there seems to be some pretty messed up things that happen behind the scenes. The latest example being the Geico/GNCC deal. So I can kind of see how some riders develop chips on their shoulders and become very opinionated on certain things

What's the Geico/GNCC deal?

I'm sure youre more familiar with that whole deal than i am so I'm not sure why you asked me. If youre really interested in talking about off a public forum you know how to reach me. Either way i don't know all sides of the story so it's not my place to go into details. But either way it's spun it's a bad deal to have a sponsor pull support from the gnccs.

I honestly haven't heard anything about the deal other than Geico pulled their support. If I had known anything else I wouldn't have asked.
